Muslim devotees in many parts of the country staged demonstrations on Friday protesting attacks on Muslim people in India’s capital New Delhi that left 38 people dead, reports news agency UNB.

In Dhaka, devotees under the banner of ‘Samomona Islami Dal Samuho’ brought out a rally from in front of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Juma prayers.

The protesters holding placards with different slogans also burned Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's effigy.

In Sylhet, devotees under the banner of Bangladesh Jamiatul Ulema took out a rally after Juma prayers in Sylhet city.

They protested at the deadly attacks on Muslims in India’s capital.

The protesters also burned Modi in effigy, saying the people of Bangladesh do not want to see him attending programmes to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Protests were also staged in Netrakona and Nilphamari against the deadly attacks targeting Muslims in Delhi.

Quoting an AP report, UNB said India's hard-line Hindu nationalists watched anti-government protests centered in Muslim communities for months in anger that finally boiled over in the worst communal rioting in New Delhi in decades, leaving 38 people dead and the Indian capital shell-shocked.

Tensions had been building over a new citizenship law that critics see as a threat to India's secular society and a way to further marginalise the country's 200 million Muslims.
