Noted physician and founder of Rahat Anwar Hospital in Barishal, Rahat Anwar, died at a hospital in Dhaka early Tuesday, reports UNB.

The 55-year-old reportedly showed COVID-19 symptoms.

“Rahat breathed his last at around 2:45am at a hospital in Badda,” said his brother Delwar Hossain.

Rahat treated COVID-19 patients at his hospital since the beginning of the outbreak and two nurses at his hospital tested positive for coronavirus last week, he added.

“He was admitted to a private hospital, but died,” Ashit said adding that the deceased had symptoms of coronavirus infection.

Earlier this week, Rahat Anwar fell sick.

Ashit Bhushan, principal of Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College, said Rahat was airlifted to Dhaka as oxygen levels in his body fell alarmingly low on Monday.

“He was admitted to a private hospital, but died,” Ashit said adding that the deceased had symptoms of coronavirus infection.

Health authorities have so far confirmed 68,504 coronavirus cases and 930 deaths from COVID-19 in country.
