Election commissioner Mahbub Talukdar on Friday alleged the chief election commissioner (CEC) has chosen the worst way of vengeance against him because of his reverse stance over the election.

"I am still alive just because of the treatment. Mentioning the matter of my treatment, the CEC has taken the worst way to take revenge against me because of my opposite stance over election," he said in a statement to the media on Friday.

It is my fundamental rights to get proper treatment as a commissioner, Mahbub Talukdar added.

Earlier at a function at the election commission (EC) building in the capital's Agargaon area on Thursday, CEC KM Nurul Huda said Mahbub Talukdar is an ailing person.

The CEC said, "He (Mahbub Talukdar) sometimes is admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) and sometimes in critical care unit (CCU). He has received treatment from Singapore and India. He needs TK 3 to 4 million yearly for his treatment that the EC bears the expenses."

In response to the CEC's remarks, Mahbub Talukdar said the CEC didn't submit the report of actual expenditures. Nobody willingly gets admitted to ICU or CCU.

"I have been suffering from the prostate cancer for long. The cancer usually spreads the different parts of the body so I have taken the treatment from Chennai in India and Singapore," Mahbub Talukdar said.

"A medical board comprising of four physicians of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) allowed me to take treatment abroad after completing my physical examinations in two phases", he added.
