Chattogram COVID-19 cases surge past 8,000, deaths 170

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases crossed the 8,000 as record 346 new cases traced till Monday, reports BSS.

The new cases tested positive for the virus among 997 samples submitted for test at six laboratories in the district in last 24 hours ending on 29 June.

“The number of COVID-19 patients now stand at 8,035 in Chattogram district alone,” civil surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told BSS on Monday.

Of the newly detected 346 COVID-19 patients, 274 are the residents of the port city and the rest 72 are residents of different upazilas.

Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that with Monday’s three deaths, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reaches 170. A total of 877 persons, so far, have been released from hospital after recovery, he added.

Rabbi told BSS that of the total new cases, 56 among 167 submitted samples tested positive at Chattogram University while the number was 14 among 101 among samples at Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases, Chattogram.

Another 45 tested positive among 112 samples at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) while 26 new COVID-19 cases were identified at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU) after testing 144 samples, the civil surgeon added.

24 more coronavirus patients were identified at city’s Imperial Hospital after testing 110 samples while 177 people tested positive after testing 352 samples over the same period.

On the other hand, four residents of Lohagara upazila were identified as COVID-19 positive after testing 11 samples at Cox’s Bazar Medical College Hospital.
