DMCH senior urologist 11th physician to die of COVID-19

Former senior consultant of Urology department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) died of COVID-19 at a private hospital in the capital on Tuesday morning, reports news agency UNB.

DMCH director brigadier general AKM Nasir Uddin told the news agency that Monzoor Rashid Chowdhury breathed his last at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital around 11:00am. He was tested COVID-19 positive.

Monzoor, who obtained MBBS degree from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, was a senior consultant at DMCH urology department. He went on leave preparatory to retirement (LPR) one year ago, the director of the hospital said.

With the death of Monzoor, the number of physicians died of COVID-19 as of Tuesday rose to 11, said Nirupam Das, the chief administrator of Bangladesh Doctors Foundation.

Three more physicians died with COVID-19 symptoms, he added.

The country on Tuesday saw the biggest jump in novel coronavirus cases in a day with the detection of record 2,911 new cases in the span of 24 hours which took the total number of confirmed cases to 52,445.

During the same period 37 more COVID-19 patients died, raising the toll to 709.

Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said this in a daily health bulletin.
