21 killed as launch capsizes in Buriganga

Twenty one bodies have been recovered after a launch capsized in the river Buriganga on Monday.

Among the dead, 12 are men, six women and three children. One has been identified as Didar Hossain, 40.

The recovery of the bodies have been confirmed by Golam Sadeq, chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.

The vessel, ML Morning Bird, had more than 50 passengers onboard which was headed for Sadarghat in Dhaka from Kathhpotti in Munshiganj.

The launch sank near its destination at Farashganj.

Fire service, police and river police have been conducting rescue mission at the spot.

Earlier, Mahfuzur Rahman, vessel inspector of Dhaka river port, had confirmed of the capsize.
