Militants have no capacity to carry out big attack: DMP chief

Militants have no capability to carry out big attack as the law enforcement agencies have destroyed the militant’s dens after the attack on Gulshan Holey Artisan café, said Dhaka Metropalitan Police (DMP) commissioner Shafiqul Islam.

He came up with the remark on Wednesday after placing floral wreath at the Gulshan-2 Holey Artisan bakery and café in remembrance of the victims who were killed in the militant attack five years ago, reports news agency UNB.

Twenty- two people, including 17 foreign nationals, were killed in the attack on 1 July evening in 2016. Among the victims, two were police officers. Five militants were also killed when military commandos conducted operation the following morning.

Talking to the reporters, the DMP commissioner said after attack on the Holey Artisan cafe, law enforcement agencies have destroyed militant’s den one after another.

“For this, the capability of militants came down to minimum level. Even they have no expert to make improvised bombs,” he said.

"Many of the militants have now been languishing in jails or killed in various anti-militant operations. So they have no capability to occur big incident,” he said.

All the militants who directly took part in the café attack were killed in military commando operation, he said adding that other militants who were involved in the attack were given punishment by the court.
