COVID-19 in Bangladesh: Another 50 die, 2856 detected

The number of detected coronavirus cases in Bangladesh has risen to 216,110 as 2,856 more people were found to be positive, after testing 12,398 samples in the last 24 hours.

During that time 50 more patients died, raising the total deaths in the country to 2,801, said additional directorate general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Nasima Sultana.

She said this in the regular health bulletin on coronavirus situation in the country on Thursday.


The rate of detection in the last 24 hours was 23.04 per cent while the overall rate of detection of coronavirus infected cases in Bangladesh as of Thursday is 20.03 per cent, Nasima Sultana said.

The DGHS additional directorate general further said 2,006 people recovered from the highly infectious disease in that time, taking the total to 119,208.

The overall rate of people recovered as of Thursday stands at 55.16 per cent while the rate of death is 1.30 per cent, she added.


Of the people died in the last 24 hours, 41 were males and nine females. Of the total deaths as of Tuesday, 2,209 were males (78.86 per cent) and 592 females (21.14 per cent), said Nasima Sultana.

She said a total of 12,092 samples were collected in the last 24 hours. As of Tuesday, the number of samples tested in Bangladesh stands at 1,079,007.

Bangladesh detected first coronavirus patient on 8 March and recorded first death on 18 March.
