2 to die for rape, murder of minors

A court in Dhaka on Tuesday sentenced two youths to death for the rape and murder of two four-year-old girls in the capital’s Demra on 7 January last year, reports UNB.

Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Judge Joyshree Somaddar sentenced Golam Mostafa and Azizul Bawani to death and fined them Tk 50,000 each.

On 7 January, police recovered the bodies of Nursat Jahan, daughter of Palash, and Dola Akther , daughter of Faridul from the ground floor of a seven-storey building on Shahjalal Road in Demra.

Police arrested the two youths a day after the incident. Father of one of the victims filed a case with Demra police station against the accused.

On 24 January, police pressed charges against the two. The youths told the court that they lured the girls to a nearby flat with lipsticks.

According to case statement, the convicts strangled the two girls after raping them.
