4 placed on remand for issuing fake COVID-19 certificates

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed four members of a syndicate involved in issuing fake certificates that says a person is free of COVID-19, on a three-day remand in connection with a case filed at Mugda police station in the capital, reports UNB.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Debabrata Biswas passed the order when sub-inspector Foysal Munshi of the police station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before a virtual court with seven-day remand plea.

The remanded are -- Fazal Haq, 40, Sharif Hossain, 32, Jamshed, 30 and Liakat Ali, 43.

The court also rejected their bail petition, when their lawyers filed separate petitions seeking bail.

Earlier, on Monday, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four people along with fake COVID-19 certificates, two computers, two printers and two scanners.

Later a case was filed at Mugda police station.
