5-yr-old girl raped in Dinajpur: Man gets life imprisonment

A Dinajpur court on Monday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for violating a five-year-old girl in 2016.

Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Sharif Uddin Ahmed handed down the verdict.

Saiful Islam, 46 of Parbatipur upazila has also been slapped with a fine of Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail with hard labour.

The court acquitted co-accused Afzal Hossain Kabiraj as allegations brought against him could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, the five-year-old girl of Jamirhat Takeyapara in Parbatipur upazila was raped by the convict on 18 October 2016.

Local people rescued the girl from a turmeric field the following day in a critical condition as she was left there suspecting her to be dead.

She was first taken to a local hospital and then shifted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. Later, the physicians shifted her to Dhaka for better treatment.

Police arrested Saiful and his associate Afzal in this connection, two days after the crime.

In 2017, sub-inspector Abu Syed also the investigative officer of the case submitted chargesheet against the duo.
