Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police Soumen Roy, the accused in the Kushtia triple murder, has confessed in the court today. He confessed under Section 164 in the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate Mohammad Rezaul Karim.

Later, the court sent him to jail, the investigating officer of the case Nishi Kant Saha told BSS.

Investigating officer and Kushtia Model Police Station officer-in-Charge (OC), Nishi Kant Saha, told BSS that Soumen Roy said he did it out of anger but it was “an unforgivable crime to kill a child”.

Kushtia additional superintendent of Police (ASP Special Branch) Farhad Hossain Khan said Soumen was produced in court in connection with the shooting of three people on Sunday. Murder case has already been filed against him, he said.

Soumen suspected that Asma was in a relationship with Shakil, another victim. He continuously inquired about Asma’s relationship with Shakil on the day of the incident.

He pulled out a handgun and fired when Asma remained silent on the subject. The ASI also told the court that he left his workplace without permission. Soumen further admitted that he brought service pistol and bullets.

Kushtia Model Police Station officer-in-Charge (OC) Sabbirul Alam said Hasina Begum, mother of slain Asma Khatun, had filed a murder case with Kushtia Model Police Station on Sunday night accusing Soumen of the murder.

Earlier on Sunday, Soumen opened fire in the city’s Customs Junction area killing Asma Khatun, her son Robin and Shakil. Locals caught the ASI and handed him over to the police.
