Unidentified miscreants attacked a 'chander gari' – a 'jeep' that carries passengers on hilly roads–on the Bandarban-Chandraghona-Rangamati highway on Saturday afternoon, leaving four female passengers injured.

Bandarban Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Shahidul Islam Chowdhury said, the vehicle was carrying 17-19 teenagers from Baga Lage of Ruma to Rajasthali of Rangamati via Bandarban sadar upazila.

On the way, the 'chander gari' overturned when miscreants shot at its tyres to stop it. At least four passengers, all female, were injured in the incident.

Identities of the injured passengers have kept hidden to protect their safety.

Armed cadres of the Chittagong Hill Tract-based political group Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) might have led the attack to create unrest, law enforcement officials told journalists at 9:45pm on Saturday.

However, no comment from JSS in this regard could be gathered.
