DGHS ex-DG Abul Kamal Azad charged with Shahed in fraudulence case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has finally framed charges against the former director general (DG) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Mohammad Abul Kamal Azad with Regent Group chairman Md Shahed in a fraudulence case.

The ACC will submit the charge sheet soon to the court, has confirmed its public relation officer Mohammad Arif Sadek to the media.

Former director of DGHS Aminul Hasan, deputy director (hospital-1) Md Yunus Ali, assitant director (hospital-1) Md Shafiur Rahman and research officer Md Didarul Islam were made accused earlier in this case.

The ACC has newly added the former DG Abul Kalam Azad to the charge sheet.

ACC deputy director Md Farid Ahmed Patwary lodged a case accusing five people on 23 September in 2020 on charges of embezzling Tk 33.04 million the government allocated for Covid-19 testing and its treatment.

The lawsuit has been filed under 409/420/109 sections of penal code and 5 (2) section of corruption prevention act 1947.

After a year, the deputy director, also the investigative official of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the ACC. The commission has accepted the report on Monday.
