Gazipur city councillor arrested for attempted rape

Police have arrested a councillor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) for his alleged rape attempt on a woman.

Farooq Ahmed, 50, was arrested from his home in the Ershad Nagar area of the city on Friday afternoon immediately after the victim lodged a complaint with police, reports UNB

Jabed Masud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi East police station, confirmed the information, saying that a case was filed regarding the issue.

According to the case statement, Farooq had a love affair with the victim. When she went to Farooq’s place to meet him on 23 May, he took the advantage of empty house and attempted to rape her.

The woman managed to flee as neighbours came forward hearing her screams.
