One killed, 50 injured in Sirajganj clash

A youth was killed and 50 other people injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Baghabari in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj on Wednesday.

The deceased is Yamin, 34, son of Yunus Ali of Baghabari Mollabari village.

Shahid Mahmud Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahzadpur police station, said the clash broke out between two groups - Kokil Mollah group and another group led by former UP chairman Latif – over establishing dominance in the village around noon, leaving over 50 villagers injured.

Several houses were vandalised during the clash.

Later, police charged baton to bring the situation under control, said the OC.

Yamin succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital while 27 other were admitted to the hospital.

Police also detained 12 people in this connection.

Besides, a case was filed in this regard, the OC added.
