Police sends list of 50 social media accounts to BTRC for actions

A number of people have been detained in Chandpur, Khagrachhari, Chattogram, Dhaka and Kishoreganj districts on charges of spreading rumours about coronavirus infection in the country, reports news agency UNB.

A list of around 50 social media accounts have also been sent to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to close those and take action, said Md Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (AIG-Media) of police headquarters.

He, however, did not disclose the number of people detained on allegations of spreading rumours.

“We’re working at the moment to identify and locate those involved in spreading rumours from 82 other accounts, pages and sites,” the AIG said, adding that a drive is on to arrest some other people accused of spreading rumours.
