Regent Hospital chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim has been handed over to the RAB by the Detective Branch (DB) of the police.
Shahed was arrested for issuing fake coronavirus certificate and for his involvement in several other fraudulent acts.
Lt Col Ashiq Billah, director (law and media) of RAB confirmed this to Prothom Alo on Thursday.
DB police was investigating the allegation of fraudulence by Regent Hospital and Shahed was put on a 10-day remand under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Detective Branch (DB). After six days of remand in DB, Shahed will remain in the custody of RAB for the remaining four days.
At the request of the RAB, the home ministry on Tuesday approved the transfer of the investigation into Shahid's case to the agency (RAB).
The RAB raided the Regent hospital on 6 July on various charges including issuing false reports. On 7July, RAB filed a case with Uttara West Police Station. Shahed was made the number one accused in the case.
On 13 July, the RAB appealed to the Home Ministry to investigate the case.
On 15 July, RAB arrested Shahed from the border area of Satkhira. On 16 July, a Dhaka court granted Shahed a 10-day remand for questioning.
After Shahed's arrest, at least 20 cases have been registered against him in different police stations in Dhaka. Most of the cases are for fraudulence.
