Rohingya drug peddler sentenced to six-year imprisonment

A Chattogram court sentenced a Rohingya drug smuggler to six years rigorous imprisonment, reports UNB. The court also fined him Tk 5,000 and an additional six months jail term in default.

Fourth additional Chattogram metropolitan sessions judge, Shariful Alam Bhuiya passed the order on Wednesday. Bench assistant Omar Fuad confirmed the verdict.

Accused Md Syed Alam, 20, is a Rohingya citizen. He is a resident of Leda Rohingya camp in Teknaf.

According to court sources, Syed Alam was arrested on 4 December, 2018 in front of the Municipal Shopping Complex-2 in Kotwali police station area. At that time police recovered 1,650 pieces of yaba from him.

Tapan Kanti Sharma, sub-region inspector of Chattogram Metro Narcotics Control Department, filed a case at Kotwali police station.

At present, accused Syed Alam, out on bail, has been absconding.
