A young man was killed in what law enforcers called a gunfight with them in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila early Tuesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was Nazrul Islam, 25, son of Abdul Hakim of Abhirampur village. He was a leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Pias Bahini and accused in the murder case of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Rakib Hossain, said police.

A foreign pistol, sharp weapons, and five empty cartridges were recovered from the spot.

There were several cases against Nazrul including Rakib murder, the police officer said.

On Sunday night, Shibir activists attacked BCL leaders in Amanullahpur Bazar leaving five including Rakib severely injured.

Rakib died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Monday. His mother Shirin Akhter filed a case with the Begumganj police station naming 25 people.

Police arrested four Shibir activists and produced them before the court on Monday afternoon, the OC said, adding that they were trying to arrest the other accused.
