A Dhaka court has sent TikTok video-maker Yasin Arafat Opu to jail on charges of assaulting a person in a public place.

Police produced Opu, better known as TikTok Opu on social media, before the court on Tuesday, seeking a three-day remand. The court rejected the remand plea and sent him to jail.

Earlier on Monday night, Opu was arrested from the capital’s Uttara, according to police.

Sub-inspector of Uttara East police station, Azizur Talukder, said that Opu and his accomplices were making a video blocking a road in sector-8 area of Uttara.

One of the car drivers honked as they blocked the road, said Azizur. At this, Opu and others attacked the youth, leaving him injured, he added.

The victim filed a case over the incident with the Uttara East police station.

Opu has confessed his part in the incident, said police.

Popular for his unusual dyed hair, Opu has huge followers in the Chinese micro video-sharing website TikTok.

Deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Uttara Division), Nabid Kamal, told newsmen that they would probe into whether Opu and his associates were involved in drugs and other criminal activities or not.
