Two to die for killing farmer in Rajshahi

A court Monday sentenced two persons, including a woman, to death on charge of killing a farmer in the district around eight years back, reports BSS.

Judge of public safety violators offense prevention tribunal and special session judge court Akbar Ali Sheikh found them guilty of the murder charge and pronounced the verdict this noon.

The convicts identified as Mafiz Uddin and Fuljan Bibi, both of the residents of Kathalbaria village under Durgapur upazila in the district, were present in the court during the pronouncement of the verdict.

Another accused of the case Deraj Uddin, husband of Fuljan Bibi, was acquitted as the murder charge brought against him could not be proved beyond doubt.

Public prosecutor Asaduzzaman told the journalists that the accused in accomplice with each other slaughtered their neighbour Muhammad Nurun Nabi to death on 15 April 2013. They also severed his head from body.

Subsequently, they packed the body in a gunny bag and left it in a nearby wetland at night. Asaduzzaman said extra-marital affairs between them were said to be reason behind the murder.

Son of the victim Hashem Ali had lodged a case with Durgapur police station on the following day. Upon completion of the investigation police pressed charges accusing three persons.

After examining recorded depositions of 29 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the tribunal handed down the verdict.
