The immediate-past director of the Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD) brig gen Md Shahidullah died of COVID-19 on Saturday.
He breathed his last at Combined Military Hospital in the city this afternoon, health ministry’s spokesperson Ayesha Akhter said.
The government on 22 May appointed additional secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman as CMSD director replacing Shahidullah following criticism over allegations of delivering substandard masks and PPEs to government hospitals during the coronavirus crisis.
In a letter to the public administration ministry that time, Shahidullah urged the authorities to free CMSD and the overall health sector from an ‘unscrupulous syndicate’.
In the letter, he also named contractors who allegedly control all procurement of CMSD, transfer and postings of the health sector.
