'Eid-ul-Azha: Security surveillance to be beefed up'
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Thursday said surveillance and monitoring would be beefed up to stop crimes during the forthcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha, reports BSS.
“Measures would be taken to ensure safe movement of cattle-laden vehicles during the Eid,” he told reporters after a meeting on the law and order situation ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha at his ministry’s conference room in Dhaka.
The minister said police must remain alert about activities of militants and terrorist groups, adding that regular intelligence information would have to be gathered along with strengthening surveillance.
The home minister presided over the meeting, while security division secretary Mustafa Kamal Uddin, inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed, religious affairs secretary Md Nurul Islam and other officials concerned were present.
“The health ministry has prepared the health guidelines for markets of sacrificial animals to prevent the spread of coronavirus and law enforcers will work for maintaining it,” Kamal said.
Regarding cattle markets, he said two city corporations will make arrangements for makeshift cattle markets in the city and quick response team will be deployed to work at any untoward situation.
Importance has been given to buy sacrificial animals digitally in the country this year, as Covid-19 is highly contagious, Kamal added.
He said hand washing facilitating and hand sanitizer will have to be ensured at the entrances of cattle markets by their lessees. Every buyer will have to follow health guidelines.
“No vehicle carrying sacrificial animals will be allowed to stop on roads and other places. Law enforcers will ensure security concerning counterfeit notes, extortion and ‘malam’ party,” the minister said.
He said ministries concerned will take decisions on rawhides pricing and their proper marketing, while measure will be taken against smuggling of rawhides.
The minister said Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association or (BGMEA) will take steps to pay workers’ salaries and bonus on time as garment factories will remain closed during the Eid festival.
He said mobile courts will be conducted during the Eid to stop malpractices.
