Make Boro procurement drive successful at any cost: Food minister

Food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Wednesday urged all concerned to make the ongoing Boro procurement drive successful at any cost, reports state-run news agency BSS.

“The ongoing Boro procurement drive must be successful at any cost as Boro paddy has bumper yield in the country”, he said.

The minister made the remark virtually while addressing a meeting titled ‘Inner Boro Collection Campaign-2021 Progress Review Meeting’ as the chief guest from his secretariat office.

Instructing to collect paddy from the actual farmers, he urged the officials of the food department to make the ongoing procurement campaign a success.

He said the target of collection has to be achieved within the stipulated time.

Ministry secretary Nazmanara Khanum presided over the meeting.

The food minister inaugurated the Paddy Collection Campaign and Rice Collection Campaign-2021 on 28 April and 8 May respectively.

The target for this year’s Boro season is to procure one million (1,000,000 tonnes) of boiled rice at Tk. 40 per kg and 100,000 tonnes of Atap rice at Tk. 39 per kg.
