There has been no decision as yet over operating trains with half of their capacity of passenger, said railways minister Md Nurul Islam Sujon.

“No decision has been taken yet over carrying 50 per cent passengers in trains… we’ll let you know if there’s any decision,” he said, reports UNB.

The railways minister was talking to newsperson at a deal-signing ceremony at Railway Bhaban (Building) in the capital on Tuesday.

Earlier, on Monday, the government has imposed restrictions on public movement and other activities like operating public transport with half of their capacities amid the growing concern over the new Omicron variant of Coronavirus.

The cabinet division issued the notification on Monday which will take effect on 13 January and will remain in force until further notice.

Meanwhile, a deal was signed on Tuesday between Bangladesh Railway and Epic Properties Ltd., a private company, for constructing a 15-storey building with shopping mall and hotel-cum-guest house under the Public Private Partnership (PPP), involving Tk 450 million (45 crore).

Ahsan Zabir, the focal person of Bangladesh Railway and engineer Anwar Hossain, additional chief engineer and director of Epic Properties Ltd., signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
