Public transport to operate on a limited scale: State minister

The government has decided to allow limited operation of public transport, state minister for public administration Farhad Hossain told UNB on Wednesday night.

"The prime minister informed about the decision at night," he said, adding that a gazette notification will be published on Thursday.

Public transports - buses, trains and vessels - will have to maintain health guidelines, Hossain said.

"The district administration will ensure that health rules are being followed," he said.

Public transports were shut after the government announced general holidays from 26 March to contain the transmission of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the government has also decided not to extend the ongoing general holidays and will allow reopening of public, private and autonomous offices from 31 May to 15 June in a limited scale.

It also permitted markets and shops to remain open from 10:00am to 4:00pm on condition that they follow health rules.

But educational institutions will remain closed during this period.
