The first of its kind, a four-day International Conference on History and Culture (ICHS 2020), is now going on in full swing.
The online conference titled ‘The Battle of Plassey: The Quest for Truth’ has been organised to mark the Plassey Day that falls on 23 June.
Bangladesh History Olympiad (BHO) and Bangladesh Heritage Study and Development Foundation (BHSDF) have jointly arranged the conference featuring 10 representatives from Bangladesh, India, Iran and United Kingdom, says a press release.

The inaugural session of the conference was held on Saturday with the presence of BHSDF’s president Enamul Haque, presidium members of BHO’s national committee Emran Jahan, Abeda Sultana, Helal Uddin Ahmed, BHSDF’s chief adviser Zakir Hossain and its secretary general Shahida Khan.
On the opening day, the keynote speaker was professor AKM Shahnewaz of Department of Archaeology, Jahangirnagar University.

Other speakers were AKM Shahnawaz (Bangladesh), Priyojit Debsarkar (UK), Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan (Bangladesh), Mohammad Kazem Kahdooei (Iran), Mumit Al Rashid (Bangladesh), Md Khairul Anam (India), Sri Salil Kumar Das (India), Ashis Kumar Das (India) and Emran Jahan (Bangladesh).
About the conference, BHO national committee’s general secretary Abu Sayed told Prothom Alo, “We’ve organised the conference online due to COVID-19 pandemic so that history enthusiasts get the real picture of what actually happened during the Battle of Plassey.”
Bangladesh History Olympiad has been working since 2015 to make pupils aware about their regional history.
Another purpose of the event is to make history popular among the common people.
The online conference aims to provide a premier international forum for academia and researchers to share and exchange knowledge and research findings, as well as to explore the fields of history and culture.
