With detection of 247 new positive cases in the last 24 hours till Thursday noon, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients in the division has topped 10,000 mark, said a COVID-19 quarantine and isolation related daily report.
“We received 282 samples at Khulna Medical College (KMC) and other samples in Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon. Of those, 247 were found COVID-19 positive,” assistant director (health) of Khulna division Ferdousi Akhter told BSS this noon.
The health officials said, of the newly detected patients, 64 in Jhenaidah, 40 in Satkhira, 34 in Khulna, 23 each in Chuadanga and Kushtia, 20 in Jashore, 16 in Narail, 14 in Bagerhat, nine in Magura and four in Meherpur districts in the division.
“Among the total 10,000 COVID-19 patients, 3,834 are in Khulna, 1,487 in Jashore, 1,293 in Kushtia, 746 in Jhenaidah, 616 in Satkhira, 568 in Narail, 489 in Bagerhat, 469 in Chuadanga, 355 in Magura and 143 in Meherpur districts,” Ferdousi said.

The number of recovered patients increasing along with rise in the number of infected ones in recent weeks in the division, she said.

The recovered patients are being discharged from home isolations and Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals after disappearance of all symptoms and reportedly findings of two consecutive real-time PCR tests.
“Among the total 10,000 coronavirus infected people, 1,072 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 5,117 have recovered and 179 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Ferdousi said.
With six more deaths the total number of fatalities now reached 179 in the division.
“The district-wise break-up of the fatalities stand at 58 in Khulna, 28 in Kushtia, 20 in Jashore, 18 in Satkhira, 14 in Jhenaidah, 10 in Bagerhat, 10 in Naral, eight in Magura, seven in Meherpur and six in Chuadanga districts,” she added.
Currently, the fatality rate among the total 10,000 COVID-19 patients stands at little over 1.79 per cent in the division, higher than the national rate. As of Thursday, the national death rate in coronavirus disease is 1.30 per cent.
During the last 24 hours, 276 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 220 others released from all 10 districts in the division.
A total of 48,125 people was put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in all 10 districts of Khulna division.
Among them, 45,049 have so far been released and are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in the division.
