COVID-19 cases cross 7,900 in Khulna division

With detection of another 320 cases in the last 24 hours till this noon, the total number of COVID-19 patients in Khulna division reached 7,962, said a COVID-19 quarantine and isolation related daily report on Wednesday.

“We received 282 samples at Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) and other samples at Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours. Of those, 320 were found COVID-19 positive,” assistant director (health) of Khulna division Ferdousi Akhter told news agency BSS this noon.

She said, of the newly detected patients, 104 in Khulna, 65 in Jashore, 46 in Jhenaidah, 32 in Kushtia, 23 in Magura, 16 in Chuadanga, 15 in Bagerhat, 13 in Narail, four in Meherpur and two in Satkhira districts.

“Among the total 7,962 COVID-19 patients, 3,300 are in Khulna, 1,156 in Jashore, 1,051 in Kushtia, 535 in Jhenaidah, 435 in Narail, 432 in Satkhira, 358 in Bagerhat, 323 in Chuadanga, 260 in Magura and 112 in Meherpur districts,” Ferdousi added.

The number of recovered patients continues increasing along with a rise in the number of infected persons in recent weeks of the division, she said.

“With the healing of 298 more patients, the total number of recovered patients rose to 3,582 with the recovery rate of 44.99 per cent in the division till this noon,” the health official mentioned.

The recovered patients are being discharged from home isolations or dedicated corona isolation hospitals after disappearance of all symptoms and finding of two consecutive real-time PCR tests.

“Among the total 7,962 people infected with the novel virus, 834 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals while 3,582 have recovered and 137 died. The rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division,” Ferdousi said.

With the five more deaths including two in Jhenaidah, two in Satkhira and one in Kushtia, the total number of fatalities now reached 137 in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the fatalities remains at 48 in Khulna, 20 in Kushtia, 17 in Jashore, 10 each in Jhenaidah and Satkhira, eight each in Narail and Bagerhat, seven in Magura, six in Meherpur and three in Chuadanga districts in the division”, she added.
