COVID-19 cases jump to 4,445 in Rangpur division

The total number of fatalities rose to 76 with three more deaths, including two from Dinajpur and one from Nilphamari, during the last 24 hours till 8:00am today

The number of people suffering from novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19, has risen to 4,445 in Rangpur division as 147 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, reports BSS.

“The 147 infected cases were reported after diagnosing collected samples in the division at three laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Dhaka on Wednesday,” said COVID-19 focal person and assistant director (health) for Rangpur division ZA Siddiqui.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 1,355 in Rangpur, 189 in Panchagarh, 535 in Nilphamari, 224 in Lalmonirhat, 301 in Kurigram, 267 in Thakurgaon, 1,073 in Dinajpur and 501 Gaibandha of the division,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 2,828 with 72 more people yesterday, raising the recovery rate to 63.62 per cent in the division.

“The 2,828 recovered COVID-19 patients include 944 of Rangpur, 126 of Panchagarh, 387 of Nilphamari, 154 of Lalmonirhat, 137 of Kurigram, 191 of Thakurgaon, 632 of Dinajpur and 257 of Gaibandha districts,”. Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, the total number of fatalities rose to 76 with three more deaths, including two from Dinajpur and one from Nilphamari, during the last 24 hours till 8:00am today.

The average casualty rate among the COVID-19 patients currently stands at around 1.71 per cent in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the 73 deceased people stands at 23 in Rangpur, 21 in Dinajpur, 10 in Gaibandha, nine in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, four in Panchagarh and two each in Lalmonirhat and Thakurgaon districts,” Siddiqui said.

A total of 178 COVID-19 patents are now undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 2,755 recovered patients and 73 deaths while 1,292 remaining in home isolations among the total 4,445 patients in the division.

During the last 24 hours till 8:00am today, 361 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 244 others released in the division.

A total of 54,794 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 48,198 released and 6,596 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

Talking to news agency BSS, Rangpur divisional director (health) Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 34,081 samples were collected in Rangpur division till Wednesday night, 4,445 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 13.04 per cent.

“We have so far received a total of 174,313 pieces of personal protective equipment and distributed 104,979 among the health service providers with a current stock of 69,334 pieces in the division,” Khan said.

Currently, the government hospitals, health complexes and other health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to face the COVID-19 situation in Rangpur division.
