Detected virus case doubled in a month in Rangpur division

The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases doubled to 6,729 in Rangpur division on Wednesday from the number of 3,354 a month ago on 5 July as 130 new patients were reported positive on Tuesday.

“Currently, the number of COVID-19 patients stands at 6,729 in the division against the number of 3,334 patients on 5 July,” COVID-19 focal person and assistant director (health) for Rangpur division ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the total 6,729 patients now stands at 1,764 in Rangpur, 345 in Panchagarh, 672 in Nilphamari, 428 in Lalmonirhat, 540 in Kurigram, 428 in Thakurgaon, 1,864 in Dinajpur and 688 in Gaibandha districts.

“On 5 July, the district-wise break up of 3,354 patients stood at 1,061 in Rangpur, 151 in Panchagarh, 407 in Nilphamari, 156 in Lalmonirhat, 211 in Kurigram, 225 in Thakurgaon, 739 in Dinajpur and 404 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.

However, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients continues increasing along with a rise in the number of infected patients in the division.

“With the healing of 176 more infected patients on Tuesday, the number of recovered patients rose to 4,765 today,” Siddiqui said.

However, the number of recovered people among the total of 3,354 infected patients stood at 1,994 on 5 July at the recovery rate of 59.45 per cent in the division.

“As of today, the 4,765 recovered patients include 1,428 of Rangpur, 228 of Panchagarh, 619 of Nilphamari, 267 of Lalmonirhat, 295 of Kurigram, 272 of Thakurgaon, 1,296 of Dinajpur and 360 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Siddiqui said.

Divisional director (health) Amin Ahmed Khan said a limited scale community transmission of the highly infectious virus continues at places in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours till 8:00am today, 543 people were put in quarantine at home or institutional isolation and 651 others released from all eight districts in the division.

A total of 62,443 people were placed in quarantine since the beginning. Among them, 57,767 have been released and 4,676 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in the division.

With three more deaths reported with one each from Panchagarh, Kurigram and Dinajpur on Tuesday, the total number of fatalities now stands at 117 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 117 fatalities now stands at 31 in Rangpur, 39 in Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, nine each in Nilphamari and Kurigram, seven each in Thakurgaon and Panchagarh and three in Lalmonirhat districts.

Currently, the fatality rate among the total 3,847 COVID-19 patients stands at 1.73 per cent in the division.

“Since the beginning, we have tested a total of 41,977 samples and found 6,729 COVID-19 positive cases with the infection rate of 16.03 per cent,” Khan added.

Talking to BSS, chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and principal of Rangpur Medical College professor AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said a limited scale community transmission of COVID-19 continues at places in Rangpur division.

“All authorities concerned are working in a coordinated approach to prevent COVID-19 spread and provide health services to infected patients to face the situation,” he said, urging everyone to sincerely abide by the health directives.
