FMCH physician tests positive for COVID-19

A physician of Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

He was Abdullah, 49, an assistant professor of Radiology and Imaging Department of the hospital and a resident of Jhiltuli in the district town.

According to FMCH officials, Abdullah has been suffering from fever for the last eight days.

Siddiqur Rahman, Faridpur civil Surgeon, said the physician has been residing at home since coming down with fever, and will remain there for quarantine.

A total of 15 people have been infected with coronavirus in the district as of Sunday, he said.

The number of physician infected with coronavirus in the country reached 540 on Saturday, said the Bangladesh Doctors Foundation (BDF), a forum of physicians.

Of the total infected doctors, 337 got infected while treating patients at government hospitals and 139 are affiliated with private hospitals, while the rest fall under ‘other’.

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh jumped to 9,455 after the health authorities announced detection of 665 new cases on Sunday.

“Two patients died in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 177,” Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said at a regular online press briefing.
