Lakshmipur reports 37 coronavirus cases in a day

Lakshmipur has recorded as many as 37 coronavirus cases in a day raising the total number in the district to 186.

The latest test results came to the Lakshmipur civil surgeon's office around 11:30pm on Wednesday.

The district detected its first coronavirus patient on 12 April, a man from Ramganj upazila.

Since then, about four people are being infected in the district on an average every day. The health department and the district administration expressed concerns over the matter.

Lakshmipur district has been indefinitely declared lockdown from 13 April to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

According to the district civil surgeon's office, 285 samples were collected and sent to Dhaka in the last four days. Of these, 31 new COVID-19 patients were identified. Besides, 56 samples were sent to Noakhali University of Science and Technology. Six were found to be positive.

Lakshmipur civil surgeon Abdul Gaffar said, “The number of patients infected with coronavirus is increasing every day. It is a matter of grave concern. The number of coronavirus infections is on the rise as people are not following social distance.”

Among the infected, 61 have been admitted to the isolation unit of the hospital while 69 patients are undergoing treatment at home. Of the victims, 52 have recovered.
