Lightning kills schoolboy in Manikganj

Lightning killed a schoolboy at Kharia village of Harirampur upazila in Manikganj on Saturday evening, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Rashedul Islam, 15, a tenth grader at Notakhola High School.

Rashedul was fishing on boat along with two others at river Padma, UNB quoted locals to say.

Around 5:00pm, thunderbolt struck them and left them unconscious.

According to the research of Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB), lightning strikes killed 274 people in 2015, 387 in 2016, 372 in 2017 while 449 in 2018, the news agency says.

Experts claimed that the rate of lightning strikes increased in Bangladesh due to climate change and increased use of electric equipment.
