Nine die with fever, four admitted in hospitals over two days

A total of nine people suffering from cold, fever and breathing complications died in eight districts while six were tested positive for coronavirus and four more were admitted in hospitals across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In Manikganj, an elderly man suffering from fever and breathing complications died in village Golora of Saturia upazila in the morning.

Saturia upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Ashraful Alam said his sample was collected for coronavirus test. After his death, two houses were locked down and 16 people were sent to quarantine, said the UNO.

In Nilphamari, a 65-year-old man suffering from cold and fever died in village Khanpara of Domar upazila. Domar upazila health officer Md Ibrahim said samples of the deceased were collected and sent to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital for coronavirus test while his house has been put under lockdown.

In Narayanganj, a young man died from breathing complications at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Miyad, 23, son of Shahidullah of sadar upazila in Narayanganj.

Inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said that the youth was admitted to the medicine ward of the hospital on 5 April.

Following his breathing problems, he was kept at the isolation unit where he died around 8:00am, the inspect said.

In Sunamganj, a young man aged around 22, died from fever and breathing complications at Bakhtarpur village in Doarabazar upazila on Tuesday night.

Sonia Sultana, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), said a samples were collected from the deceased and two houses were kept under lockdown.

In Rajshahi, an elderly man, who returned from a Tablighi congregation, died in quarantine at Uttar Milikbhagha village in Bagha upazila on Wednesday.

Deputy director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Saiful Ferdous said samples were taken from the body to diagnose whether he was infected with coronavirus.

In Kishoreganj, a man aged about 45 who died from fever and cold in Karimganj upazila on Monday was found to be infected with the coronavirus, said Kishoreganj civil surgeon Mohammad Mujibur Rahman.

Getting information, a medical team collected samples from the deceased and sent those to Dhaka for test, he said.

Meanwhile, two unions – Kadirjangal and Zafrabad -- in upazila were put under lockdown on Tuesday following the death of the man, said deputy commissioner Sarwar Murshed Chowdhury.

Another man suffering from breathing problem, died at Boiratia village in Karimganj upazila in the afternoon.

Civil surgeon said sample of the deceased has been collected for coronavirus or COVID-19 test, he said.

In Panchagarh, a 14 -year- old teenage girl died from fever and respiratory problems at Tepriganj in Debiganj upazila on Tuesday.

Mohammad Hasinur Rahman, a health officer of Debiganj upazila health complex, said a medical team collected samples from Hafeza on Tuesday and sent those to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for test.

In Cumilla, a-20 year- old man suffering from breathing complications died in Bolighar village in Muradnagar upazila in the afternoon.

Moshrat Farkhanda Jerin, residential physician of Nabinagar upazila health Complex, said the youth has pneumonia symptoms.

His samples were collected for testing of coronavirus, she added.

Officer-in-charge of Bagura Bazar police station Md Kamruzzaman Talukdar said they have lockdown the neighbourhood of the deceased.

In Dhaka, a slum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar was put under lockdown on Wednesday after a resident tested positive for coronavirus.

The resident of Motaharer slum, who is also a temporary worker of National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Centre, tested positive today, said Jan-e-Alam, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.

There are around 300-350 families in the slum. They locked the slum around 5:00pm, he added.

Meanwhile, a student of Jagannath University (JnU) has tested positive for coronavirus.

He underwent test at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Monday and his result was found positive on Tuesday, JnU vice-chancellor Mijanur Rahman said.

In Manikganj, three members of Tabligh Jamaat, who tested positive for COVID-19, were sent to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital in the city on Wednesday.

Manikganj civil surgeon Anwarul Amin Khandakar said they were shifted after the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed that they had been infected.

In Keraniganj, another resident tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, raising the number of infected people to five in the upazila, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Amit Deb Nath confirmed.

UNO Amit said they have put 55 families in Borisur and 15 other areas under lockdown as the number of coronavirus cases has been on the rise.

In Nilphamari, a physician of Kishoreganj upazila health complex was kept in isolation after he was reportedly found infected by the virus while another 243 people, including doctors and nurses, were sent to home quarantine.

Civil surgeon Ranjit Kumar Barman said the health complex was put under lockdown at 5:00pm Tuesday and urged the local people to take necessary treatment from community clinics at union level.

In Sylhet, another physician, who tested positive for coronavirus, was taken to the isolation unit of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital in the city from home-quarantine on Tuesday night.

On Sunday, IEDCR confirmed that the physician was infected with coronavirus, said Sylhet civil surgeon Premananda Mondal.

In Satkhira, a woman suffering from fever, cold and cough was admitted to the isolation unit of Satkhira Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.

She returned home on Tuesday and got admitted to the hospital after villagers objected to her staying at home, hospital sources said.

In Gopalganj a woman of Gopalganj sadar upazila’s Raghunathpur village suffering from fever, cold and cough was admitted to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital on Tuesday night.

Sadar upazila nirbahi officer Md Sadiqur Rahman Khan put several houses of the woman’s neighbours under lockdown.

Gopalganj civil surgeon Niaz Mohammad said the woman, 28, was admitted to the isolation unit of Gopalganj general hospital on Tuesday.

In Chandpur, two people were admitted to the isolation ward of Sadar Hospital with cold and fever on Wednesday evening.

Residential medical officer AKM Sujauddoula Rubel confirmed.

Meanwhile, three more people died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising death toll to 20, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

Besides, 54 people tested positive for COVID-19 during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 218, said IEDCR.
