Nor’wester kills Bogura AL leader

A man was killed in Bogura when a nor'wester swept over the district on Wednesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Naji Uddin Sarkar Najir, 75, vice-president of Kalai upazila unit of Awami League.

Zia Latiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Kahalu police station, said Najir died on the spot after a tree fell on his house during the storm this morning.

Besides, a number of houses were damaged and trees were uprooted.

Meanwhile, power connection of the district remained snapped for 10-12 hours after the storm.

On Tuesday night, a nor'wester swept through Joypurhat killing four people including and destroying around 2,000 houses.

A nor'wester accompanied by rain and gusty wind with 78kph swept the capital early Wednesday.

Last week, cyclone 'Amphan' battered coastal districts of Bangladesh with wind speed of up to 180kph and over 10 feet tidal surges.

It inflicted heavy damage to lives, livelihood, agriculture, infrastructures, environment, as well as the largest mangrove forest in the world, the Sundarbans, in southwestern region of the country.
