Rangpur division coronavirus cases exceed 2,800

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases exceeded 2,800 as the highest number of 79 more new patients were reported positive in a day after testing their samples in Rangpur division on Wednesday, reports BSS.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 2,844 in all eight districts of the division,” BSS quoted focal person of COVID-19 and assistant director (health) for Rangpur division, ZA Siddiqui, as saying.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 958 in Rangpur, 146 in Panchagarh, 348 in Nilphamari, 117 in Lalmonirhat, 148 in Kurigram, 206 in Thakurgaon, 638 in Dinajpur and 283 in Gaibandha districts in the division,” Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, with 90 more COVID-19 infected people recovering in 24 hours till Wednesday, the total number of recovered rose to 1,645. The rate of recovery is 57.84 per cent in the division.

Among the recovered, 618 are of Rangpur, 120 of Panchagarh, 264 of Nilphamari, 52 of Lalmonirhat, 85 of Kurigram, 141 of Thakurgaon, 341 of Dinajpur and 125 of Gaibandha.

“During the last 24 hours, 267 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 271 others released from all eight districts in the division,” he said. With one more death reported from Rangpur on Wednesday, the total number of fatalities now stands at 50 in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the fatalities remains at 16 in Rangpur, 12 in Dinajpur, nine in Gaibandha, six in Nilphamari, three in Panchagarh, two in Thakurgaon and one each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of the division,” Khan added.

Talking to BSS, divisional director (health) Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 48,898 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Among the quarantined people, 43,659 have so far been released and 5,239 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in the division.

“After testing a total of 27,656 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Wednesday, 2,844 found coronavirus positive with the infection percentage of 10.28 in the division,” he said.

After receiving a total of 1,72,316 pieces of personal protective equipment so far and 1,00,346 pieces of the same were distributed among the health service providers with a stock of 71,970 pieces in the division.
