BNP-police clash: Injured Bhola JCD president dies

Bhola district unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) president Nur-E-Alam, who was wounded critically during a clash between the police and BNP activists in Mahajanpatti area of Bhola, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

The clash took place on Sunday morning during a protest rally called by the BNP to bring down the prices of commodities. A BNP activist, Abdur Rahim Matbor, was also killed in the clash, injuring at least 50 people.

Nur-E-Alam was first taken to Bhola and then Barishal for treatment. Later, the JCD leader was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka for better treatment.

Bhola sadar upazila BNP general secretary Md Helal Uddin said Nur-E-Alam was on life support in a capital's hospital.

Nur-E-Alam's brother-in-law Md Ruhul Amin, principal of Bhola Jangalia School and College, said the body of Nur-E-Alam will be taken to Bhola from Dhaka by launch on Wednesday night. However, it is yet to be fixed when his namaz-e-janaza will be held.

Bhola district unit general secretary Kandaker Al Amin said BNP leaders in Dhaka will decide whether the autopsy of Nur-E-Alam will be conducted or not.
