Woman ‘commits suicide’ after killing son

A woman allegedly committed suicide after killing her minor son at Pota village in Nandigram upazila of Bogura on Wednesday, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Lipi Rani, 26, wife of Bipul Barman, and their three-year-old son Bappy Barman.

Shawkat Kabir, officer-in-charge of Nandigram police station, said Bipul Barman works at a rice mill in Dhupchanchia upazila and he used to visit his family on a regular basis.

But he could not visit the family for several days due to the nationwide shutdown aimed at curbing coronavirus.

Lipi strangulated her minor son to death and later she took poison to kill herself in the morning.

Family members took her to the upazila health complex where doctors pronounced her dead, the OC added.

Vitim’s younger brother Ananda Barman said her sister was married off to Bipul around five years ago.

“Members of her in-law’s house didn’t like her and they used to abuse my sister mentally. This is why my sister killed her son and took her own life,” he alleged.
