The body of Biplab Zaman, 60, news consultant of The Financial Express, was recovered from his residence in Mirpur in the capital on Saturday evening, said police.

On information, police and the crime scene unit of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) went to the house in Pallabi and recovered the body, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Mirpur zone) Md. Jasim Uddin said.

“We had to break the door open to enter his flat and found the body on the balcony,” he said.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College for autopsy, reports news agency UNB.

“We are suspecting that the journalist died some days ago,” Jasim said. “However, we will be able to confirm the cause of Biplab Zaman’s death after examining the post mortem report.”

Biplab had been living at a rented flat alone for the last two years. He left behind two daughters and a son.
