Measles, rubella vaccination campaign suspended

A three-week ‘Measles-Rubella Campaign 2020’ which was scheduled to begin on 18 March, was suspended to tackle spread of coronavirus, reports UNB.

Director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Abul Kalam Azad came up with the information while talking to UNB over phone.

'Measles-Rubella Campaign 2020', a 3-week campaign, was to supposed to begin across the country on 18 March.

The government will conduct the campaign in the wake of a rise in measles cases since 2017, said the health minister Zahid Maleque while briefing on the campaign at the secretariat on 12 March.

A total 340 million children aged between nine months to under 10 years, are expected to be vaccinated across the country to prevent measles and control rubella.

The MR Vaccination Campaign 2020 will end on 11 April.
