As part of the party's countrywide scheduled programme, main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will stage a sit-in in the capital city on Thursday demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The programme is scheduled to be held in front of the National Press Club from 11:00am to 12:00noon, reports UNB.

BNP's district and city units will also hold the programme across the country at their convenient time and venues.

Earlier on Tuesday, the party leaders and followers formed a human chain at the same venue seeking Khaleda's release.

On Sunday, the party announced a two-day countrywide fresh programme, including the human chain.

After the jailing of Khaleda, the party observed different peaceful programmes, including leaflet distribution, countrywide demonstration, human chain formation, sit-in, token hunger strike and protest procession, in five phases demanding her release.

On 8 February, BNP chief and former prime minister Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
