Prothom Alo English Desk | Update:

Prothom Alo IllustrationA suspected mugger was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police in Bypass Rail Gate area of Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria early Tuesday.

The deceased is Khokon Sutradhar, 30, reports UNB.

Khokon was arrested along with Tk 1.868 million looted from a private company representative on Monday afternoon, said Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Akhaura police station.

A team of police along with him conducted a drive in the bypass rail gate area around 3:00am to arrest his accomplices.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the hoodlums opened fire on police prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

Khokon was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries while his cohorts managed to flee the scene.

He was taken to Akhaura Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Khokon was also wanted in several cases, including that of mugging, the OC claimed.

The law enforcement’s version of the event was, however, not verified independently as no version of the incident was available immediately either from any witnesses or from any members of the victim’s family.
