Battle for train tickets in Kamalapur!

Ticket counters at Kamalapur railway station have become a battleground for the passengers aiming to leave Dhaka during the Eid vacation.

Passengers were seen standing in long queues on Saturday morning in front of 26 counters of Kamalapur railway station, for tickets scheduled for 11 June . Some of them had been standing there since midnight.

The law enforcement is having a difficult time maintaining security in this burgeoning rush.

“The crowd is just too much today. It is really difficult to handle such a crowd,’ said the sub-inspector of Dhaka railway police station.

When asked the reason of such a rush for the 11 -June tickets, many passengers said, the Eid vacation this year is not that long, so they were tagging the Eid vacation along with the holiday for Shab-e-Qadr.

The authorities are expecting more passengers on Sunday for 12 June tickets.

The advance sales of Eid tickets will continue till 6 June. The sale of return tickets will begin on 10 June.

One passenger will be issued four tickets at a time. There are 26 counters in Kamalapur railway station, of them 2 counters are reserved for women.

A total of 75 per cent of the tickets will be sold manually while the remaining amount will be available online.

The intercity trains will operate on weekly holidays too from 11 June.
