Four people were injured after a section of footpath over a storm sewer behind Hotel Sonargaon in the capital collapsed on Tuesday morning.

The footpath, in Hatirjheel area of the city, connects Karwan Bazar and Banglamotor areas.

The incident took place around 8:45am, a city bus service supervisor told Prothom Alo.

Four office-going people were injured as they fell into the storm drain, said a cleaner, who works at the Hatirjheel lake project.

We jumped into the sewer and rescued all of them, he added.

Dhaka’s Ramna zone fire service commander Badrul Alam said they have kept the area encircled to avoid any untoward situation.

Since the partial opening of Hatirjheel project on 2 January 2013, the site has drawn huge visitors as the dwellers of the capital have little scope to pass their leisure time in an open space.
