Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday alleged that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is tryibng to create an issue over treatment of its leader Khaleda Zia after failing to wage anti-government movement.

The road transport and bridges minister said this while talking to newsmen during visiting Mohakhali bus terminal to look into the transport management ahead of Eid.

“Why does Khaleda Zia have no confidence in the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) being a member of the army family?” Quader questioned.

The AL leader said the BNP does not want Khaleda Zia to receive treatment at the CMH as it wants to do politics over her treatment.

He said Khaleda Zia has been advised to have treatment at the CMH. "Is there any better hospital than the CMH in the country?"

The former prime minister, Khaleda Zia’s personal physicians earlier last week visited her at the jail. They claimed Khaleda Zia might have suffered a mild stroke.

The BNP leaders urged the government to admit Khaleda Zia at private sector United Hospital for treatment, but the government insisted that Khaleda would be taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

As the BNP expressed lack of confidence in BSMMU, the government said Khaleda will be provided treatment at CHM should she agree.
