Photoffee to award Joy K, Sumon Yusuf

Photoffee, a non-profit organisation for photography, has selected Joy K Roy Chowdhury and Sumon Yusuf as photographers of the years 2016 and 2017 respectively.

The chief coordinator of Photoffee Academy of Fine-art Photography, Sirajul Liton, said, the winners will be honoured at a ceremony on 29 June at the Bishwa Sahitya Kendra in Dhaka.

The 2016 Photoffee awardee Joy K Roy Chowdhury is the president of Narayanganj Photographic Club and the 2017 one Sumon Yusuf is a senior photojournalist of daily Prothom Alo.

Joy has been awarded for his individual photo exhibition of 'Life, light and chaos'. Sumon has been elected for his photo-book Desterrados published from Spain in 2017.

Sirajul said, "The Photoffee award was introduced in 2011 to inspire the promising photographers of the country. It's the first and still the only one award of its kind in Bangladesh."

Renowned artist Mustafa Monwar will preside over the ceremony, he added.

The winner will receive Tk 10,000, a crest and certificate. newsnextbd.com along with Photography Charcha are the sponsors, Sirajul said.

Earlier SA Shahriar, Prito Reza, Kamruzzaman, Munem Wasif, and KM Asad won the award.

The Photoffee chief coordinator said, they hold exhibitions, photo-walks, workshops and discussions regularly.
