BNP expels Sylhet rebel mayoral candidate Selim

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Tuesday expelled its Sylhet City unit general secretary Badruzzaman Selim for contesting the city polls defying the party decision, reports UNB.

The party also expelled Mymensingh’s Tarakanda upazila unit BNP member Masud Rana Khan for breaching the party discipline.
A party press release, signed by BNP assistant office secretary Taiful Islam Tipu, said the two BNP leaders were expelled from the party for violating party discipline and engaging in the activities that go against party interests.
The party also asked its leaders and activists not to maintain any contact with the two expelled leaders.
BNP nominated incumbent mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury as its mayoral candidate in Sylhet city polls billed for 30 July.
Selim who submitted his nomination paper to contest the polls did not withdraw his nomination on Monday last, the last date for withdrawing the candidature.
Besides, Jamaat leader Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer are also there in the race ignoring the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s decision.
