Three people, including an arrestee, were killed in alleged gunfights with law enforcement members in Cumilla, Satkhira and Barguna districts early Saturday.

Among the killed, one is a suspected drug trader and two others are criminals, police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members said, reports UNB.

In Cumilla, drug suspect Shahidul Islam Sabu, son of a certain Badsha Miah of Ekbalia area, was killed in a reported gunfight with a joint team of law enforcers in Kaptanbazar of sadar upazila.

On information, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted a drive in the area around 4:00am.

Sensing presence of the law enforcement, Shahidul Islam and his cohorts opened fire on them, forcing the RAB and BGB men to fire back, triggering the gunfight, the force said.

After the gunfight, they found the bullet injured Shahidul, who was wanted in 27 drug and arms case, and took him to Comilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

In Satkhira, Rezaul Islam, 48, son of one Mazed Sarder of Badghata village in Shyamnagar upazila and a suspected ringleader of a motorcycle snatching gang, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Noornagar area early in the morning.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Rezaul, wanted in several cases including theft and abduction, from Mirpur of Dhaka on Thursday, Shyamnagar police station officer-in-charge Md Elius Hossain said.

After collecting information from Rezaul, a team of police conducted a drive along with him in Badghata village to recover motorcycles.

Upon reaching the area, the DB came under attack of the gang members, who opened fire on them, prompting the lawmen to fire back that triggered the gunfight, leaving him dead on the spot, Elius added.

Police recovered a one shooter gun and a round of bullet from the spot, he said.

In Barguna, Kajol, a suspected member of robber gang ‘Jahangir Bahini’, was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a char of Baleshwar river in Patharghata upazila.
